Iris Iris Chrysographes - A moisture-loving Iris that thrives in waterside plantings and other damp, even wet soils, Iris chrysographes sports blooms of such a dark purple they appear black, shot with gold streaks near the petal edges. Dramatic, hard to find, and very choice, I. chrysographes is nonetheless easy to grow and very willing to adapt to varying climates and conditions.This plant blooms in early to midsummer in most climates, sporting 3-inch blooms with velvety petals revealing shots of gold and maroon only at the edges. A bold contrast to nearly every other bloom color in the garden, they combine well with other moisture-loving Irises, from I. virginica to I. pseudocorus. Superb for cutting, they are also irresistible in the garden and containers.I. chrysographes prefers full sun in northern climates, partial shade farther south.
